Fast Computers
We all want fast computers for home use, but very few of us are computer whizzes who can build superfast PCs on our own. Instead of trying to construct your own fast computers, you can optimize the one that you have. It is possible to make a few small changes that will optimize your machine. Some of these techniques should be used regularly to maintain the system and help the computer work efficiently.
Fast Computers that Start Quickly
Many computers come preloaded with lots of software options that are instructed to start working as soon as the computer’s operating system loads. When you have lots of programs starting simultaneously, though, it can take a long time for your computer to start. Just because your computer comes with these programs set to run automatically, does not mean that it has to stay that way. You can take control of the programs for a fast computer start up time.
If you want to prevent some applications from loading during startup, then click Start > Run. Then type “msconfig” and choose Startup. This will give you a list of all the applications that are currently set to start automatically. Unclick those that are unimportant. For instance, if you have installed a reliable antivirus program that works better than McAfee, then you can deselect McAfee applications to prevent them from slowing down your computer. Be sure to only choose applications that you don’t need, though. Some of them are important to your computer’s function and safety.
Fast Computers Need Free RAM
The more free memory you have on your computer, the faster it can perform tasks. This makes it important to delete unnecessary files. Over time you will probably find that you have lots of video and audio files that you don’t need any more. You might also have several pieces of software that you simply don’t use. These files take up a lot of space and prevent your computer from running efficiently. Drag unwanted files into the recycle bin and be sure to empty it to eliminate the files completely. When getting rid of software, you should uninstall the programs. This will help ensure that all of the program’s files are deleted.
Many people want to keep their audio and video files, but they also want fast computers for home use. If you don’t want to delete your files, then consider purchasing an external hard drive. This will make it easy for you to keep personal files without bogging down your system and taking up lots of RAM.
Fast Computers are Free of Viruses
Viruses will slow down a computer unlike anything else. You can, therefore, make your computer faster by choosing reliable antivirus software that identifies and destroys malware. There are lots of free programs that work well. Make sure you keep the software updated to catch the latest viruses, worms, and other types of malware.
Fast computers are virus-free, so run the antivirus software daily. Over time this might seem unnecessary, but staying vigilant will help your computer work efficiently without the burden of annoying viruses.
